Mic Eaton, Material Boy AW '09-10

Australian designer Mic Eaton presented his fall winter 2010 collection for Material Boy at RA on January 17th 2010. A steaming cauldron in the store’s front window welcomed guests to the Material Boy showing. In the misty concrete corridor of RA, Mic welcomed a selection of European press and guests to his medieval fashion presentation, with ten silhouettes spread across constructed wooden islands of moss and rocks. As thick fog rolled across the floors, the guests mingled amongst the ten models, to the sounds of strings chamber music . Cast from the street, the motley crew of models embodied mic’s vision of a medieval ‘material boy’, some with shining pageboy wigs or their own long, straightened hair. Standing in the skeletons of built wooden archways, seated on craggy artificial rocks or standing amongst imported moss and grasses, they remained static for a two hour frieze frame. The presentation was followed by an afterparty in the RA space, with DJ Dmitri [Berlin], DJ Eiko H [Tokyo], & DJ Pop Rules [Antwerp] taking the decks to entertain the revellers. “The touch and feel element of a fashion presentation was an exciting thing for me, the idea that people can see the construction and have the time to notice the details. A runway show is such a fast experience, you can only grasp the essence of the collection – this was a lot more in-depth.” -  Mic eaton
